Blade made of CPM Magnacut steel
The blade of this Benchmade Adira, Water Class is made of CPM Magnacut steel. Perhaps one of the most revolutionary steels of the 21st century. Magnacut offers an unparalleled balance of edge retention, toughness, rust resistance, and resharpenability. Since its release in 2021, CPM Magnacut has quickly become one of the most popular steels in the knife world. The CPM Magnacut blade of this pocket knife measures 9.8 cm.
This type of steel was developed by Dr. Larrin Thomas. Doctor of metallurgy and son of Devin Thomas, a well-known damascus smith who also supplied damascus to Chris Reeve Knives for many years. He works in the automotive industry but is passionate about knife steels. He thought it could be done better, and together with Crucible Industries came to CPM Magnacut.
For the blade finish, the 'stonewash' process was chosen. In this process, the blade is placed in a drum with ceramic stones, or media, and then vibrated or tumbled for several hours. The result is a finish that looks polished or roughened, depending on the version. The advantage of stonewashing, however, is that traces of use are much less noticeable. A favourite choice for real utility knives.
